Scot McKnight on the Gospel

November 24, 2008 — Leave a comment

Let me urge you to get to know Scot McKnight, New Testament Prof at North Park University in Chicago.  He is one of the clearest and most important voices in biblical studies and the emerging church world today.  I have quoted from his work, The Jesus Creed, many times as we have focused our ministry at Christ Church around the Great Commandment of loving God and loving our neighbors. His blog, also called Jesus Creed is one of the best on the church today.  In our current series on the Good News, McKnight’s works, Embracing Grace and A Community Called Atonement are vital contributions – helping  the Church to embrace and share Jesus’ Gospel in its wholeness.  A sentence summary on atonement that I quoted today:

God’s work in Christ is to restore ‘cracked Eikons’ (fallen humscot-mcknightan beings) to union with God, communion with one another, for the good of others and the world.

For those who prefer audio forms, two of Scot McKnight’s teachings on understanding atonement and proclaiming a “robust Gospel” can be found at this Intervarsity site. The second message summarizes some of the material included in A Community Called Atonement.
