How Should the Church Respond to Culture?

September 22, 2008 — Leave a comment

This question is one that needs to be asked constantly and by every church in any culture.  After Sunday’s teaching on “A Vision of Hope For The World” one brother told me, “That sermon should have been preached 20 years ago!”  I referenced a new and very important book by Andy Crouch called Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling. He outlines the different ways the church, especially in America, has responded in the last century: Condemning, Critiquing, Consuming, and Copying culture – instead of Cultivating and Creating culture.  Here is a review from Books and Culture that provides a good summary and stresses the importance of this dialog for the church to BE the church in today’s world.  Click Here.
